The origin and memories of Korean ramen

However, the first thing to bring out when talking about ramen is the beginning of Korean ramen, and ’Samyang Ramen’, which contains memories of the middle-aged generation who first tasted ramen. In 1963, the history of Korean ramen began. 63 was the last year of the Baby Boom era, and at that time, Korea was a country where many people were struggling with hunger.
Samyang Food’s founder, Jeon Jung-yoon, accidentally passed the Namdaemun market in the early 60s and saw people lined up in a long line to buy 5 wanted honey porridge in one bowl. Chairman Jeon decided to resolve the hunger of the common people, remembered having eaten ramen when visiting Japan in the past, and thought that this was the only way to solve the food problem.
At that time, by persuading the Ministry of Commerce, the government’s main department, and borrowing 50,000 dollars, the first ramen in Korea was finally produced on September 15, 1963, by introducing machinery and technology from Japan’s famous food, Myojo. Despite the opposition of the executives and employees that there would be a deficit, the ramen price was released for 10 won to relieve the hunger of the common people.
The wrapping paper for “Samyang Ramyun,” which was released for the first time in Korea and has been with us until now, was replaced with a red circle from the early 1970s on an orange background, which is the same pattern as the present, from a design that resembled a chicken picture at the time. This is to convey a modern sense while maintaining the unique image of Samyang Ramyun.
The first experience is an unforgettable memory and love for someone, so I hope Samyang Ramyun continues.
